It turns out that this was the right day to take off, there is a strong wind from the east today (Is that described as an easterly or westerly wind since it is coming east, going west?). Walking back to the hotel from breakfast the wind gusts pushed me backward: it would have been a tough day to bike.
To get out of the hotel I walked to the dollar store and bought a few items of food. I was primarily looking for gloves, which they did not have, but the women said to go to the local hardware/auto/appliance store. They had work gloves which I cut the fingers off. I will get to try them out tomorrow.
There are two possible routes in the morning , one, Silver City through several small towns, and then Las Cruces--the official route--the other, I-10 more directly to Las Cruces. The advantages to I-10 are that it is 60 miles shorter and there are no big climbs. The disadvantages are two days of highway cycling, speeding cars, towns are 60 miles apart, and I think it will be boring. The advantage to Silver City is scenery, a varied route, and the possibility of interesting towns. The disadvantage is a lot of hard climbing, big miles with nothing in between towns (actually that is just like I-10), and sixty extra miles. I'm leaning toward Silver City but I will sleep on it tonight and let you know the thrilling outcome in my next post.
Not much in the way of photos today, just the new finger-less gloves and a surprisingly good restaurant across the street from my recuperation motel.
